The first group of refugees arrived in Munich yesterday and the Germans greeted them with cheering and applause.
Many of the refugees will have fled bloodshed in the middle-east and you can see from the smiles on their faces how comforting the greeting is. The BBC captured the moment that they first stepped onto the continent, with many Germans handing out water and sweets, whilst others shouted ‘welcome’.
An estimated 450 people arrived in Munich by a special train service from Budapest after mounting international pressure resulted with the Hungarian Government allowing them to travel. Austria has also agreed to open their borders to the refugees, allowing 10,000 into the country.
