We could all do with a friend like Ed Sheeran couldn’t we? Well, we’d settle for just having Sheeran himself as a friend to be honest. Especially if this is how he treats them.
Now the infamous redhead has outdone himself, giving a woman he knew back in the day the chance to pay off her mortgage.
Ed, who last night presented the MTV EMAs in Milan, was approached by his old pal Amy Wadge when she was struggling to make ends meet.
She had initially just hoped he would put a song they wrote together when they were 17 on his deluxe album, so that she would profit from the revenues. But when she came to see him, they worked their music magic and out came the hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’. Ed put the song on his album, Amy was given writer credits, and has now been able to pay off her mortgage and sees a steady income from the song.
She was going through financial troubles about a year ago.
She drove to my house – my album was nearly done – and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff.
While she was there, we wrote Thinking Out Loud. Now she never has to worry about money again.
She’s got a family and two kids and stuff and every time I speak to her, she’s going on holiday. It’s really nice to see. It wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t come down from Wales to see me.
Thinking Out Loud has since been streamed over half a billion times on Spotify, so it’s fair to say that Amy certainly earned her wages. And since her success on the song with Ed, other artists such as Ben Haenow and Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell) have sought her out for her songwriting prowess.
Just in case you can’t remember the song:
Amazing. And no, that wasn’t her dancing. This is probably more what it’s like when she hears the song:
