Will Hutt is the father of a very Halloween-obsessed 9-year-old called Liam. In the mere nine years he has been around, Liam has already had a seriously amazing repertoire of halloween costumes including: Black Swan, Cleopatra, and Medusa.
When his dad posted photos of his better-than-our-halloween-costume Cruella de Vil get-up this year, though, the people of the internet attacked them both, calling his transformation “inappropriate”.
“I must say completely inappropriate, and I can’t believe a parent would ever do that to their child! Sorry if I offend you or your friends but I think it’s wrong!!!!” the (now deleted) comment on Hutt’s Facebook read. Hutt’s response?
“We deal with this type of small minded person on a daily basis. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I will always support and encourage my kids creativity happily and without apology.”
Hutt went on to explain to the Gaily Grind that people often assume that because Liam has two dads “that we somehow guided him in this direction. That is simply not the case.” He and his partner have encouraged Liam’s desire to use Halloween to express his creative side: “He’s 9. More kids should be allowed to explore their interests without fear.”
“It seems like he is more interested in the creative process and the eccentricity of the outfit rather than the dressing or impersonating a female, although if that was what he wants.”
He also told The Huffington Post he originally penned an angry and heated response to the person who criticized his son and his parenting skills but ultimately “decided to take the high road” instead.
We say: next time, take their dogs and harvest their fur for a fierce coat. (We’re kidding. 100% not serious.)
We just can’t wait to see what costume little Liam pulls out of the bag next year.
