I took a drop of a popular Italian aperitif (Bitter Campari) and let it dry. Then I looked at it under a polarizing microscope…
The sugar (sucrose – C12H22O11) of this alcoholic drink crystallize in radiating aggregates, and their interference colors create stunning kaleidoscopes.
Images are polarized light photomicrographs, and dimensions range from 0.5 to 5 mm. There’s virtually no manipulation after shooting.
