Just in time for Valentine’s Day, artist Idalia Candelas is pointing out that it’s totally fine to be on your own. With a set of illustrations, based on the time she spent living alone in Mexico City, she shows women in solitude, but perfectly happy.
Speaking to Mic, she explained that the theme of loneliness had been recurring in her drawings, but she wasn’t trying to portray it as a negative situation:
“I like to show women who exist in solitude but do not suffer. They are not depressed or crying. Rather [they] are safe, exalting in the sense of enjoying the company of just herself.”
