It’s 2016 and, by now, you’ve probably noticed that absolutely everyone is utterly mad, nothing isn’t on the internet and, excluding those people in the comments section who say “smh android is so much betterrrrr“, everyone wants an iPhone.
And further proof of all of those points has just arisen as a man in China sold his 18-day-old baby so he could buy an iPhone – and now you’re reading about it on the internet.
The Independent reported that, after he found out he could, a man named only ‘A Duan’ from Tong’an, Fujian province, south eastern China, sold his daughter for £2,500 on the social media site, QQ. With the money, he planned to buy an iPhone and a motorbike.
The man apparently sold the child without the consent of its mother whilst he claimed she was the result of an “unwanted teenage pregnancy”.
Due to financial issues, it’s thought that the baby is still living with the adopted family instead of the birth parents. As you might expect, the mother was inconsolable (rightly so) and fled the city before being swiftly arrested. She went on to say:
“I myself was adopted, and many people in my hometown send their kids to other people to raise them. I really didn’t know that it was illegal.“
Soon after the ‘transaction’, both buyer and seller handed themselves into the police.
Due to their financial struggles and their apparent ignorance on the subject, the judge took pity on the birth parents – handing the father a three year sentence and the mother a 30 month suspended sentence (as she looks after her disabled parents).
It’s sad to see this sort of thing happen but SERIOUSLY?! A human for an iPhone? They’re pretty good but there’s basically no buyable product that’s worth a baby…
