16-year-old American student, Madi, decided on Monday to make a few comments on the ways of us British.
Apparently based on a Brit she met whilst on holiday (sorry – vacation), she remarked on everything from our grammar, to our pale skin. From our apparent love of phone boxes, to our excessive use of the words “mate” and “lad”:
(I’d argue that our British slang makes a lot of sense…)
(I’m definitely going to start calling my dad, “dud”).
I mean fair enough, right? She has hit on some of the main differences between the British and American cultures. We do call “elevators”, “lifts”, we do start drinking at 18 (and not a day before…) and we do have a Boxing Day…
