Hundreds of Photoshop fails appear on the internet every day, and they’re a great source of laughter. One great example of this shook the internet yesterday, May 17th, when GQ Magazine revealed the cover of its annual Comedy Issue. What makes it even funnier this time though is that the errors were intentional!
The new GQ comedy issue cover features three comedians, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae and Sarah Silverman, gracefully posing in stunning dresses. At first glance, the cover probably doesn’t raise many questions, but as soon as you start looking more closely you notice that there are way too many arms and legs for the three people in the picture. This was a genius tribute to Vanity Fair’s epic Photoshop fail on their cover back in January, where Reese Witherspoon appeared with three legs while Oprah Winfrey apparently grew an extra hand.
While a random hand, which has no owner, strokes Issa Rae’s shoulder on the newest GQ issue cover, you can see her third, surprisingly long arm reaching around Sarah Silverman’s body. Meanwhile, McKinnon’s right leg seems weirdly distorted over Silverman’s shoulder, and there’s also another random leg next to her, plus a hand under the platform.
Although it seems that Vanity Fair themselves didn’t appreciate the joke, on Twitter they replied with a beautiful pun: “It’s not going out on a limb to say we love Issa, Kate, and Sarah. Props to GQMagazine for getting a leg up on this trend.”
GQ also released a statement along with the cover, that they called “Mistakes Were Made.” They Apologized to Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and Sarah Silverman “for the egregious mistakes made in the process of creating the cover for our 2018 comedy issue”, while regretting “that the results violated GQ’s rigorous standards of editorial excellence and the laws of nature.” With this being said, we invite you to scroll down to see this cover for yourself.
